4.5 BALL LOST OR BECOMING UNFIT FOR PLAY

During the match, the ball may be lost in dense bushes, in a field of long grass or in a nearby stream or pond or may become unfit for play because it has lost its shape, bounced on a concrete surface or the seam has split

In all cases, the ball must be replaced by another ball which is similar in wear to the previous ball

To save time, both umpires should carry a spare ball so that the ball can be replaced as quickly as possible

The umpires should inspect the ball at irregular intervals so that they are aware of the ball's condition

The umpires, without the captains, decide the replacement ball and will inform the fielding captain and the batters at the crease

The use of a replacement ball does not change the prescribed number of overs before the next new ball is due
